Who we are
Denied By Default is a parent-led campaign to overhaul the child DLA benefits system. For anything to do with your data, contact us at hello@deniedbydefault.org.
What we collect and why
- Mailing list: your email address, so we can send you campaign updates. Nothing else, and no marketing for anything other than this campaign.
- Your story: your name, email, rough location, and what you tell us about your family's experience of the DLA system. Because these stories are about disabled children, they can include health information, which the law treats as special category data. We collect it only because you choose to give it to us, and only to build the case for changing the system.
The rules we hold ourselves to
- We never publish or share your story without your permission. Anything used publicly is anonymised unless you explicitly agree otherwise.
- We only pass your details to a journalist if you ticked the box saying you're open to that, and even then we ask you first, every time.
- We never sell data, and we never share it with third parties for their own purposes.
- Children's information reaches us only through their parents or guardians. We don't collect information from children directly.
Where it's stored
Form submissions are stored securely by our website host (Netlify) and in the campaign's email account. Access is limited to the people running the campaign.
How long we keep it
For as long as the campaign is active, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. When the campaign ends, stories are deleted unless you've agreed they can be kept as part of the campaign record.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email hello@deniedbydefault.org and we'll act on it promptly. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
